Since the first Yiwu Commodities Fair in 1995, Yiwu exhibition industry has been growing at a rapid rate. Now it is taking the shape of a scaled industry of coordinated structure, with Yiwu International Commodities Fair and China Yiwu Cultural Products Trade Fair as the leader , some brand fairs such as Hardware Electrical Appliance Fair and Consumer Goods Fair as the kingpin, more than 30 medium and small scaled professional exhibitions as the body, exhibitions and conferences developing together. Yiwu International Commodities Fair has become the third biggest economy and trade fair in China, while Yiwu Cultural Products Trade Fair is the only fair oriented to foreign trade in China's cultural products industry.
The exhibitions held are mostly related to trade and commerce, and over 90% are professional exhibitions of some industries . Except YWICF and YWCPF, which are organized with the help of the local governament, all the other fairs held every year are organixed by professional enterprises, which shows the high level of marketization of Yiwu's exhibition industry.
Now Yiwu is building a new exhibition venue which covers an area of 205 mu. When this project is finished, Yiwu will boast one of China's biggest number of standard exhibition booths, nearly 7000. At present, the area of Meihu Exhibition Center has reached 47,000 square meters. It makes Meihu Exhibition Center one of the biggest professional exhibition halls in East China and become the member of the Global Association of the Exhibition Industry.
