August：an unexpected peak season for Christmas items

July used to be the month when foreign customers placed the order for Christmas items . However, this July was different in that most foreign customers were waiting to see the situation . But in August, situation began to change .

There is an obvious increase of order for Christmas items and it is estimated that the season for Christmas items will last t i l l the end of August . In September, some foreign customers may

buy stock as well .Anyhow, according to present statistics, orders for Christmas items of this year decrease by 15%.

An entrepreneur dealing in Christmas items like Christmas trees says, “The business is not so good this year .The cost increases a lot as the price of raw material increases too much . Our profit

shrinks a lot as well . ” The profit went down because this year the price of raw materials , salary of employees have been going up .

Enterprises are in a dilemma when they try to balance between the high cost and the low price . They have to keep customers by all means while sustaining a shrink in profit .

Facing the new situation, some enterprises of Christmas items try to find new market by improving their products . According to the president of a toy company , he began to develop new market in Russia, Brazil and India since the Subprime Mortgage Crisis in US.

Consequently, some manufacturers change English words on the packing into other languages like Russian to adapt to the new market and the packing becomes more colorful. This year, the demand for Christmas items in new market of Russia, India and Brazil increased twice, which is considered a good sign for enterprises who are in need of market transfer . The ability to find and meet the rigid demand is a critical factor for manufacturers to survive .
