In a booth named Kungfu Babies located in the third phase of the International Trade Mart in Yiwu, a Pakistan businessman Musharraf Ham was selecting babies' products carefully .
He has been in Yiwu for business for over 5 years . Although Yiwu market closed down during the Spring Festival, he still stayed in Yiwu and waited for the opening in order to keep the business.He said, “I’m doing marketing here and I have orders all the time.
Yiwu commodities are cheap and good.Many friends from India and the United Arab Emirates purchase here .” He placed orders on the opening day of the market.
The businessmen in the market become busy again after the Spring Festival.And they have great confidence in the New Year’s business .Statistics by the market management show that all the booths open to the public on the first business day of February 5 after the Spring Festival and a total of 165,000 customers poured into the market,an increase of 10% compared to the same period
last year .Carpet businesswoman Ms Fan was happy about the harvest on the first business day,for she received orders totaling 500,000 yuan in the morning as well as 400,000 yuan of goods payment .
Ms Fan is an agent of carpet enterprise .In 2008,under the pressure of financial crisis, the domestic market became her new refuge harbor .“The foreign orders were much more in the first half of last year than the latter half .But the domestic market became better after September,”Fan said.The car pet is a new industry.With the improvement of housing conditions,more rooms need decoration,which even led to a supply shortage during the Spring Festival.The orders she received were from Hunan, Guizhou,Chengdu,Chongqing and Hefei .“We can gain on the swing what was lost on the roundabout .”Fan said .
Yiwu commodity market developed by expanding the domestic market in its early days ,and turned to export later .Although the global
financial crisis has some negative influence on Yiwu market,its business volume maintains rapid growth despite the disadvanta geous situation .According to the statistics from Yiwu industrial and commercial administrat ive department,in 2008,the business volume of Yiwu market reached 49 .23 billion yuan,an increase of 6.83% over the previous year .And the business volume of China Commodities City Group alone reached 38 .181 billion yuan,an increase of 9.6% over the previous year .
According to the in-group sources,there’re some reasons that explain the increase of business volume of Yiwu China Commodities City .First ,the export of Yiwu commodities is still quite good at the beginning of the year .Statistics from Hangzhou Customs show that its branch Jinhua Customs received 18,900 export declarations of Yiwu commodities this January and supervised the export of standard containers totaling 34 thousand,up by 11 .4% and 5 .6% respectively over the same period of last year .
Second ,the markets of Yiwu commodities in South America and Europe are expanding,which reduced its dependence on the market of
US.By the end of last year, Yiwu export to EU had increased 22 .3% ,and its export to those emerging markets such as Latin America and ASEAN had increased 29% and 25 .4% respectively .European market has become the biggest export market of Yiwu commodities,
which takes 31 .79% of Yiwu self-run export .Clothes ,socks, handicrafts, zipper sand accessories,textile yarns and woven goods are main products for export .
Besides,the reconstruction and the improvement of specialized markets, a series of policies and measures for market expanding,such as the establishment of showrooms and logistics bases in Heilongjiang’s Shangzhi,Sichuan’Meishan and Xinjiang’s Urumqi,and the establishment of Online Purchasing and Distribution Center of China Commodities City-all of these directly stimulated the business
volume of Yiwu market in the downturn of global economy.
It is learned that CPC Yiwu Municipal Committee and Yiwu government have already decided 2009 as “the Year of Market Expanding” and will implement a series of policies and measures to help local business to expand the domestic market and promote the balanced development of Yiwu market .
