On June 19, a special work committee for wine distribution was set up by Yiwu Non-staple Food Industry Association, which is aimed to strengthen the self-discipline of the industry, promote the orderly competition among wine distributors, and develop and prosper the wine trade industry. It is estimated that there are 7 wine manufacturers, over 140 wholesale booths, and about 5000 retail outlets in Yiwu, covering all aspects of the industry from manufacturing to distribution and consumption, with the annual sales value exceeding 1 billion yuan. On the whole, the wine industry is constantly being put in better order and the wine manufacturing and sales maintain a good momentum. But on the other hand, the healthy development of the wine industry is to some extent being prejudiced by the cut-throat competition, the small and scattered business status, counterfeit and shoddy products and the conventional consumption concepts. In 2006 the Wine Distribution Management Practice issued
by the Commerce Ministry implemented the systems of businessmen registration and recording and causal investigation, strengthened the supervision of wine market and encouraged the establishment and perfection of self-discipline rules of wine industry association in Yiwu.
