On August 28,an exhibition was held in Jinhua Stadium to mark the 30th aniversary of private economy, and on this exhibition of economic development fruits Yiwu Pavilion was most striking .
Both the products displayed on the spot and the figures on the exhibition board showed the glorious success of Yiwu private
economy in the past 30 years . Like dancing sprites, the words in the exhibit text were telling people stories about how Yiwu entrepreneurs successfully established their businesses . In only more than 20 years,Yiwu market has developed into a national small commodity circulation center as well as an international small commodity procurement base,in possession of 41
industries covering over 400 thousand kinds of commodities in over 1,900 categories,thus boasting the title "A sea of small commodities and a paradise for shoppers". In 2007,the whole city achieved a business volume of 46.1 billion yuan in its commodity market,making itself remain at the list top of national specialized markets for 17 consecutive years .
Today, Yiwu has been an important export base in the country,the largest inland customs and the first county-level city
that can directly handle the foreigners' visa and their permit to remain . Yiwu market reaches 55 percent in its degree of
foreign-orientation,whose commodities are exported to 212 countries and regions in the world . In Yiwu,1,840 overseas enterprises have registered and been approved to set up offic es and over 10 thousand foreign merchants from over 100
countries and regions live permanently .
Chinese Foreign Ministry and UNHCR (United Nations High Commissioner for Refugees) set up purchasing centers in Yiwu market; 12 of the globally top 20 shipping groups opened offices in Yiwu as well . And China Yiwu International Small Commodity Fair has become the third largest exhibition of the economy and trade kind only next to Guangzhou Fair and East-China Fair .
Yiwu market has brought along the development of local industries and pushed forward various specialty industries in the
central part of Zhejiang Province,thus shaping a trans-regional "Yiwu Economic Circle". Yiwu market's economic radiation has already extended well beyond Zhejiang Province and reached every part of the country; and in the meantime, it distributes abroad more and more "Zhejiang-made products" and "China made products". Among the commodities for sale in Yiwu market, 30 percent come from the local place, 30 percent from other areas of Zhejiang Province, another 30 percent from other provinces, regions and cities in the country,and 10 percent from abroad .
As early as 2006,CPC Zhejiang provincial committee and government released two files to popularize Yiwu experience of
development in the whole province and made Yiwu a pioneering city of reform by further expanding its administrative power
on economy and society,breaking a fresh ground for Yiwu's development . CPC Zhejiang provincial committee and government
pointed out in the research report on Yiwu experience of development, after the reform and opening-up,Yiwu realized leap
-forward economic and social development, turning a relatively small,backward agricultural county into a city with developed
economy and giving birth to the globally largest small commodity wholesale market in a hilly area short of natural resources . The report said,this inland city far away from big cities is striding toward an international trade city,whose previous backward villages with poor infrastructure have taken on a new look through its integration with urban area . The city maintains a good phase of stability and harmony in its complex and diversified social environment, whose prosperous market takes the lead in the thriving "Yiwu Economic Circle", the report stated.
