The 36-year-old French trader Pierre, tall and spare, has a pair of blazing eyes with gold-rimmed glasses on his nose. "I am running a supermarket in a small city in French, and I go to Yiwu every half year." Pierre told me that this time he came to Yiwu on July 5th, and planned to broaden his supply of goods. "Yiwu is an amazing place, you see, traders around the world come to this mart for purchasing, so this probably explains a lot." Pierre said he could find out new change of the mart and the city each time he came to Yiwu. " I can see something different with what I saw last time, purchasing goods in Yiwu is a happy experience."
"Falling in Love with Yiwu Market 3 Years ago" As for Pierre, his coming to Yiwu Market is a very occasional experience, as he used to purchase goods through the inward channels.
"It was in 2008, I got the news that many supermarket owners directly went to China for purchasing. They told me the goods in China was cheap but good.
So I came to China with several of my friends in May that time."
At the very beginning, Pierre and his friends went to Guangzhou, the mart there was as nice as he'd heard it was.
Pierre thought he found out a new purchasing location. "Just when I planned to purchase in quantities, one of my friends told me that I should go to the global supermarket' Yiwu International Trade City, and have a look.
"Then Pierre went to Yiwu. "When I opened my eyes in the Yiwu Market, I quickly made the decision: my purchasing location is set in here." Pierre was astonished for the large mart, for the plenty of goods, and for the competitive prices of goods. Staying in Yiwu for a week, Pierre collected lots of namecards.
"When I went back to French, I sorted all the namecards and selected several better ones as for me, then I Emailed them, asking for the samples."
In July 2008, Pierre again came to Yiwu and began his formal purchasing.
"I fell in love with Yiwu Market about 3 years ago." Smiled Pierre. "Yiwu left me new impression" After the first purchase, Pierre went to Yiwu every half year to inspect the
suppliers, and to broaden the new supply of goods. At the same time doing business with Chinese traders, he as well made friends with them.
"The local hardware trader Mr.Lee is my friend, he also is my first supplier.
Mr.Lee always E-mails me pictures for new products, and make me know the trends of hardwares anytime." Pierre said that the impression Mr.Lee left to him was a diligent, hostile and warmhearted man. Every time Pierre came to Yiwu, Mr.Lee would hold a party to welcome him. "The goods he offered to me are with excellent qualities, and they are sold very well in my supermarket, so I always order in a large amount."
"This year I found Yiwu opening a new mart-The District 5 Mart, I went there for a visit, the Imported Commodities Hall is very typical and impressive."
Pierre had something to say about this city. "In recent years, I see the appearance and environment of Yiwu getting better and better. And I am fond of the Exotic Customs Street, I go there eating and chatting with my friends each time I come here. And now we can see more and more foreigners of all colors in streets, and these foreigners live happily and freely here, I think it is very International." Said Pierre.
