Shopkeepers' paying for plastic shopping bags is going to be something gone forever in history.According to information on the central government website(www.gov.cn).the General Office of the State Council recently issued a notice to forbid retailers such as shops, supermarkets and trade markets from handing out free plastic shopping bags and a system is to be carried out that all plastic shopping bags must be paid for from June 1.
The notice points out that since plastic bags are the main source of 'white pollution', the production, sales and use of ultra-thin bags should be forbidden by governments at all levels, ministries, or committees; and a system is to be carried out that all plastic bags must be paid for.
It is known that plastic bags are consumables in daily life and huge quantities of such bags are used up in China every year. While providing convenience to consumers, the plastic bags have also caused serious pollution and waste of energy and resources as a result of energy and resources as a result of extensive use and inadequate recycling. Especially,since the ultra-thin plastic shopping bags are easily broken and discarded at will, they have been the main source of 'white polution'. There are now more and more countries and regions on their ways to restrict the production, sales and use of plastic bags.
The notice also says that the manufacture, sales and use of plastic bags under 0.025mm thick (rltra-thin plastic bags for short) are to be banned from June 1. Retail shops must clearly mark the plastic bags with price and impose a surcharge of them. They are not allowed to provide free carriers or mix the plastic bag price with that of the commodity. And passenger trains, passenger boats, buses, airplanes, stations, airports and scenic spots are forbidden to provide passengers or visitors with ultra-thin plastic shopping bags.
Meanwhile, the notice encourages people to return to carrying cloth bags, using vegetable baskets or durable shopping bags to reduce the use of plastic bags. What's more, the notic urges manufacturers to simplify the package of products, and choose those environment friendly materials. It is hoped that enterprises and other forces in society can offer people repeated-use carrier bags free of charge such as cloth bags.
