During the Yiwu NPC and CPPCC, many NPC members talk about the sluggish development of retailing industry, and suggest that Yiwu should improve and have its commercial retailing identity after winning one in the market . Compared with the prosperous wholesale industry,the retailing is small and scattered,which hasn’t exerted its own potential energy of a famous international trade city .
There are two solid foundations for retailing to develop in Yiwu . Firstly, the net income of rural residents reaches over 10,000 yuan in 2008,and disposable income per capita of urban ones is more than 28,000 yuan . The rapid increase of disposable income makes consuming ability take up main part in the regional consumption . Secondly, Yiwu has gathered about one million migrant workers, and visitors from all over the world are swarming into Yiwu.
According to some NPC members,there is large space to develop retailing in Yiwu because there are many advantages including first-mover advantage in regional economic development, strategy advantage in building famous international trade city,location advantage in the main axis of Central Zhejiang city cluster construction,space advantage of urbanization and dynamic capital advantage .
It is learned that Yiwu City Development Planning on Commercial Network will be officially issued by the municipal government soon . According to this plan,Yiwu will aim to build a modern cosmopolitan commercial system with proper functions,reasonable layout,advanced equipments,complete service systems and high informationization,in 2010 to form fundamentally the modern commercial distribution system, in 2020 to basically realize modernization of commercial distribution industry . "This plan will,to a great degree,change the layout of Yiwu main urban zone and the retailing structures in sub-urban zones ."Some relevant people say that the development of commercial service industry will be the highlight of city improvement in Yiwu.
