Yiwu enterprises paid more attention to the promotion of their own strength while developing overseas markets. They constantly introduced new technology and equipments,aiming at improving quality and level of their products as well as the core competitiveness of the enterprises. Many enterprises also stressed on the quality of the products'outer packing,hoping to increase the added value. Some enterprises stepped into the American and European markets while expanding their markets of developing countries in the Middle East and Africa.For example,Berkam and Weida Garments had been enjoying some proportion of
export towards Russia,Eastern Europe,and Middle Asia,but in recent years,both of them spent every effort to expand the markets in developed regions like Europe.
According to the statistical figures of Yiwu Municipal Bureau of Foreign Trade and Economic Cooperation, the export trade volume towards Europe reached 354 million USD in 2005 and 410 million USD in 2006,rising by 39. 34% and 26.7% respectively. In 2007,the trade volume rose to 519 million USD,up 26.7% against the same period of the previous year. In this figure,333. 09 million USD is the trade volume towards European Union,increasing by 41.58% over the same period of the previous year. It was learned that among the commodities exported to Europe from the city in recent years,textile & garment, handicrafts and daily consumables took the largest proportions.
