Waterfalls and ponds in a forest’s embrace:Yiwu Huaxi Forest Park

As a city with few mountains and rivers, Yiwu does not have many famous scenic spots, but Huaxi Forest Park has managed to become a conspicuous place for tourists .

To reach Huaxi Forest Park, you have to get to Huaxi Lake ( namely Wangdakeng Reservoir) first . The lake lies to northeast Huaxi Village, 2.5 kilometers long and 400 meters wide, covering 294 thousand square meters . After years of forest conservation, the hills on both sides of the lake havegrown lush forest vegetation, with Chinese red pines in the upper layer mingled by some broadleaved trees like sweet gums at the end, and azaleas and loropetalums in the lower layer, presenting a fascinating seasonal variation in the color .

On the dyke, a refreshing picture of verdant hills and green waters comes into view, which attracts you to go deep into the reservoir area either along the twisting path or on a yacht . The sound of gurgling water accompanies you into the forest park . What strike your eyes at the entrance are the glittering cascades like hundreds of silvery chains flying from overhanging precipices and steep cliffs . Some feed into the rock crevice to finally join the brushwood, some come together and pour into the deep valley, and some others run down the cliff directly and strike the pebbles in the ponds with great force, each uttering individual sounds .Proceeding along the path, you can see a view spot named “Frog Dabbling”.

　　“Longqiu Cataract” is another view spot in the valley, roughly 25 meters high . It bursts forth from a fault scarp in the shape of a white curtain, like the rootless water gushing in the sky . And when it turns down, it hits the over hanging precipices and turns into silvery flowers sprayed everywhere, which seems like a fierce dragon diving into the sea, evoking large glistening splash that could even be observed several kilometers away .

　　What lie under the cataract are the Dragon Pond and Jinsi Pond . Dragon pond is a general name for the upper, the middle and the lower dragon ponds . And the unfathomable Jinsi Pond, catching directly the water flying down from the precipices, covers 30 square meters in the shape of mortar.

The water of Longqiu Cataract goes in to the Dragon Pond and suddenly disappears, which unexpectedly recurs in two 10-meter-long rolling waterfalls, bursting out from the edge of a gigantic rock . They impact a gainst the cliff in thunderous sound, with water splashed in all directions, thus creating a misty atmosphere. The verdant forest of the park is a natural sun umbrella for the tourists . Over 3 thousand tall camphor trees in the valley grow on the two sides of the long path in picturesque disorder to shape a natural forest belt, a peculiar landscape as well designed as those manmade forests . The farther you move down, the cooler you will feel . And you walk across the stone slab bridge, single-plank bridge and stone-pier bridge, accompanied by old trees on your both sides reaching the sky . Qianzhang Forest made up of layers of camphor-tree woods gives off delicate fragrance, gladdening your heart and refreshing your mind . It stretches over 1.2 kilometers, far beyond the horizon . Considering its superior geographical location, it is an especially ideal place for people to enjoy cool in the scorching summer .

In the middle of Qi anzhang Forest grows an excellent bamboo grove . You can reach it by walking along the pebble path winding in the valley and it will finally reveal itself before a small bridge that you pass . The bamboo grove covers around 0.5 hectares, distributed in a long and narrow shape along the valley . A few brooks zigzag through the grove with ponds in all sizes in the middle . One of the ponds is called Multicolored Pond . Anyone would like to enjoy such truly beautiful scenery by sitting on a rock near the pond in the cool breeze with bamboos swaying in the wind, and watching clear water bubbled up from among the rocks .
