Yiwu is the largest export base for commodities in the world, while Zhoushan is a state-level new area owning deep-water harbors. Recently Hangzhou Customs has opened a special
green path between Yiwu and Zhoushan by implementing a new clearance mode called 'Straight to the New Area'.
With the new mode of clearance, exporters of Yiwu commodities can declare in Yiwu and deliver the goods to Dapukou Dock in Jintang Island, Zhoushan for export to foreign countries. It means that in addition to the traditional ways of' shipping from Ningbo or Shanghai', there is a new path for the export of Yiwu commodities.
On the afternoon of August 10, a container truck carrying Christmas trees and pendants headed for Dapukou Dock after being sealed at the supervision spot of Yiwu Customs. With the new clearance mode put into use, the container could be swung to a cargo ship leaving for Ukraine that night. The wholesaler in Ukraine can distribute the goods to different cities in Ukraine to meet the needs of Christmas season.
Fang Yi, a staff member of the Clearance Supervision Division of Yiwu Customs, said the export destinations via the new mode are Ukraine, Russia and Nigeria. According to statistics, the number of declarations for export via Zhoushan has surged to 1,344 since the mode of'Straight to the New Area' opened, while it was only less than 30 in the same period of last year.
