The new EU Toy Safety Directive will be put into practice from July 20,2011 . Compared with the present one, the new regulation has more strict requirements, including the number of limited migration elements rising from 8 kinds to 19, forbidding the use of 66 allergic flavors in toys among which 55 are prohibited and the rest 11 need to be given a sign when its content exceeds 0 . 01%, the agreement of chemical elements in toys with the present rules of EU on dangerous goods classification, packing and labeling, and so forth.
Tanen Baum, chairman of U.S. Consumer Product Safety Commission (CPSC), noted recently in the seminar of Hong Kong toys fair that the final goal of Consumer Product Safety Commission is leadless toys. Now the commission continues seeking ideas and suggestions from all walks of life to decide whether or not to enforce the new lead standard from August 14 of this year. The new standard is to reduce the lead content from 300ppm to 100ppm. If it is enforced it will become the most strict standard on toy's lead content in the world.
