A Yiwu native, Fang liang is a doctoral tutor at national University of Defense Technology, and a winner of First-class Award of National Science & Technology Progress.
Born in Houzhai District of Yiwu, Fang Liang's life is closely tied with the giant computer Galaxy as well as its birthplace National University of Defense Technology. And his growth almost coincided the development of China's own giant computer named Galaxy: from its appearance to the creation of the giant computer Galaxy series. Now he has just undertaken the research of the new generation of Galaxy series with his counterparts.
Graduated from Houzhai Senior Middle School, Fang Liang was admitted to Computer Department of Information Engineering University of the People's Liberatoin Army in 1979. As a top student in study, Fang Liang was asked to stay for teaching when he graduated. As he wished in 1986, he got the admission to theNational University of Defense Technology for his master degree. Then he started working there for his docoral degree as soon as he received his Master of Science. Just at the same time, he was assigned as a member to research and develop the giant computer Galaxy 2 with one billion operations per sec.
In January 1995, Fang Liang received his docoral degree in Engineering majoring in systematic structure of computers.Then he took up a new task as the team-leader for the development of Galaxy 3. The Galaxy-3 was made in June 1997 by the Research Institute of National University of Defense Technology and the is passed the state identification in Beijing. That meant China had made a new breakthrough in the technology of giant computer Galaxy series at its opoeration speed exceeding one billion times per second, and has mastered the key skill to develop the faster giant computer of higher-quality. As one of the chief members for a giant computer with ten billion operations per sec., twice Fang Liang received the first award of Science and Technology Progress at the ministerial level. He was awarded from 1997. The success of the first giant computer in 2000 filled up the technological gap in 2000 filled up the technological gap in China and this made China the third countr after US and Japan with the capability to develop giant computer. Fang Liang, as one of the main principals computer, was awarded first Naional Prize of Progress in Science and Technology, and was given the first achievement prize of progress in science and technology of the army.
Fang Liang is a researcher and tutor of doctoral graduate students in National University of Defense Technology, Chief commissioner of the information memory technology committee in China Computer Federation(CCF).
Charged with inportant missions from his twenties and thirties, Fang Liang was hammer-hardened in Key positions one after another to become an expert in the computer field and the academic leader in the compuer world. He always worked long time without rest. In the most important tackle-key-problem period of the project, Fang Liang was busy like a gyro. When exhausted, he had to get a doze in the office and eat instant noodles when hungry. Several days of eating and living in the debugging apparatus room, at this time, Fang's only wish was to have a soundly sleep. What he had paid for finally paid off. In the galaxy victory meeting, Fang was granted the honor of Galaxy Hero, and this was the best reward for his work and efforts.
